Sherman Mills Fairchild founded Fairchild Aerial Camera Corporation.
Sherman Fairchild started in the aviation business by designing high speed,
between-the-lens shutter aerial cameras.
1927
Sherman Fairchild forms Fairchild Aviation Corporation to provide
a suitable airline that would accommodate his aerial photography equipment.
He began the development and manufacture of airplanes and soon became the
largest supplier of civilian airline transport in the country and nation’s
largest manufacturer of commercial airlines flying to various airports through
out the USA.
1929
Fairchild takes over Kreider – Reisner, which operates as a separate
unit until 1936. Fairchild-Caminez becomes Fairchild Engine Corporation.
1957
Moved to West Babylon, New York
1964
Moved to Fairchild Drive, Winston-Salem, North Carolina
1989
Fairchild Industries is acquired by Banner Industries which changes its
name to the Fairchild Corporation. This corporation focuses on industrial
products.
